TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO
What you need to know
- ARRIVAL and PARKING – Parking is free and there are ample spots to park in the parking lot. Overflow parking is available on the side of the roadway which is legal and free as well. A map of our zoo is available at the front gift shop entrance.
- WASHROOMS and WHEELCHAIRS – Wheelchair accessible washrooms are available in the parking lot area as well as handwashing stations and garbage cans. We do our best to provide a beautiful visit with wide solid gravel pathways that are accessible for strollers, wagons and wheelchairs as they will wind throughout the forest during your visit. But please keep in mind the animals and their enclosure are the main priority so some of the pathways will have roots which will be clearly marked for you as the paths were built around the enclosures. Wagon and stroller rentals are also available at the gift shop for the day.
- WEATHER – Most of the time if it calls for partial rain we will remain open all day. However if it’s going to be 100% rain all day with zero breaks in the weather we will most likely close for that day. This information can be found on our Facebook page as well as the home page on our website.
- GIFT SHOP and SLEUTH – We have three small buildings that consist of our gift shop area. We have a variety of toys, plush, shirts and other novelty items for all ages. Enjoy feeding the animals! You can buy a bag of shelled peanuts for $5 which you can feed to some of our animals during your visit. Please be aware if you have a nut allergy as there often will be peanuts and the brown bags they come in throughout our zoo. We also have a water powered sleuth where you can pan handle for gold flakes, fossils, gems and rocks starting at $12 a bag. Great for kids of all ages.
- FOOD and PICNIC AREAS – We offer pre-packaged treats, cold pop, water and juice is available. We also have a Popsicle freezer when you need a quick snack. Bring a packed lunch and enjoy it at one of our many picnic areas in the shade! Remember to clean up afterwards leaving the picnic area the way you found it. Garbage cans are provided throughout the zoo. We appreciate your co-operation.
- SAFETY and SUPERVISION – We offer a standard first aid kit at the front entrance which includes allergy relief but we DO NOT have epi-pens on hand. Please keep an arms distance of small children while enjoying our zoo. Children under 17 must be accompanied by an adult (18+). Please read our RULES before your visit.
*Don’t forget to pack sunscreen, bug spray and wear proper footware.*

The mornings are always a good time to visit the animals. We also have a free re-entry policy so you can leave and come back later if you wish. On Sundays at 3pm we also have the ‘Big Kitty Crunch’ where you can learn about our cats and the zoos history while the zoo keepers do a feeding demonstration.

Zoo Rules
**WE EXPECT ALL GUESTS TO BEHAVE IN A FAMILY/ANIMAL FRIENDLY MANNER.**
Killman Zoo Visitors Conduct Rules and Policies
R.E.S.P.E.C.T. OUR ANIMALS AND FACILITIES
Killman Zoo staff, guests and the animals in our care deserve an environment free from abusive or inappropriate behaviour. If found in violation of any of these policies, engaging in verbal or physical harassment, discriminatory or threatening behaviour or otherwise towards our guests, staff or animals. We reserve the right to refuse admission to and or revoke without a refund the season’s pass and escort any individual or group out of the zoo if they are endangering our animals, staff or guests. We encourage all our visitors to enjoy the zoo in a safe and respectful manner.
SHOWING RESPECT, TEACHING RESPECT
We provide these animals with a home while teaching visitors about them. We ask that all visitors remember the zoo is the animal’s home, and we are visitors there. No visitor of any age should treat the animals in a disrespectful manner by yelling or spitting at them, throwing objects, poking or taunting them with actions that would be considered teasing. In addition to adult visitors refraining from these activities, we ask that they correct children and take the opportunity to explain why certain behaviours might have a negative impact on animals (causing stress in an animal with sensitive hearing, or making them agitated causing them to run back and forth and show aggression). Please show the animals the respect they deserve, and help us teach this conduct to the next generations.
WALKING ON THE TRAILS
Our pathways and trails are not paved, so they maybe uneven in places. Running along the trails poses a safety risk for falls and injuries. Some roots may be sticking out of the ground and cannot be removed as its part of an enclosure. They are painted to mark awareness. It is also a safety risk for staff that may use trails when handling, walking or transporting animals. We ask the visitors walk at a safe pace on our trails.
LEAVE THE FEEDINGS TO US!
Zoo staff provides diets for the animals which are healthy and nutritionally balanced. Human food, plants along zoo trails, and other items outside of their prepared diet can be unhealthy for the animals and may lead to unexpected injury, illness or even death.
NO CLIMBING ON OR OVER FENCE
Trail and habitat fences are in place for the protection of both visitors and animals. No person of any age for any reason (except zoo staff) should lean, climb or reach across zoo fences. Wooden trail fences are designed to keep visitors in a safe trail areas, however they are not built to withstand leaning or sitting and may break unexpectedly. We ask that visitors use benches for seating, not the trail fences. Photography must be conducted from designated visitor’s areas, safely behind trail fences.
THE ZOO IS A NO SMOKING ZONE!
Smoking is not allowed on zoo grounds, trails or in visitor’s buildings. Visitors may only smoke in the zoo parking lot or outside of the admissions area before entering the zoo. Smoking creates a fire hazard along trails and the cigarette ends may be carried by the wind or animals into zoo enclosures. Visitors caught smoking anywhere within the zoo grounds may be asked to leave.
NO RUNNING
Walk, rather than run…take your time to enjoy everything!
KEEP THE FOLLOWING ITEMS AT HOME OR IN YOUR VEHICLE
Balls, Frisbees, balloons, bicycles, tricycles, roller blades/skates, heelies, skateboards, drugs and alcohol, hackey sacks, scooters and any noisemakers or musical instruments.
DON’T LITTER
Put all of your rubbish in the garbage bins and use the recycling bins when appropriate. Help us keep our zoo clean. Thank you!
